Postpartum Hormonal Acne
Have you ever struggled with acne after you had a baby? I had a major problem last year. When our little Brown Bear was 9 months old, I started getting breakouts on my face. At first, I thought it was the change of weather or the fact that I started my period again since having Brown Bear. I’d been using the best brand {in my opinion} of essential oils on my face since November 2013. I also had the all-natural essential oil skincare line that my company had just launched in September 2014. It was embarrassing to be teaching classes about using essential oils for promoting healthy skin while inflamed pustules lined my jaw. I would be thinking to myself, “Just don’t look at my face! These products work, just not for me right now.” It was a total bummer and I felt like a fraud sometimes. I was using the best stuff, but it didn’t seem to be doing anything for my skin.
A friend and I were emailing last year and she told me her naturopathic doctor said that her skin issues were probably due to hormones. I didn’t think much of it until I finally got desperate. The company I partner with has women’s health products and essential oils that help balance hormones. In January earlier this year, I finally ordered this little trio of hormone balancing goodies. The girls and I were on a trip to Seattle where the products arrived. I kid you not, my friends, within five days of taking these supplements and essential oil blend I did not have any new pustules on my face. At first, I thought it was the cool, clean air in Seattle. We flew down to Southern California for a week before returning home to Hawaii. I’ve been taking these supplements and using the oil blend daily for 7 months now, and I’ve honestly only had a handful of pustules and no major breakouts. Hallelujah!
I continue to use the same essential oil natural skincare line (which smells AMAZING) and is helping with the scarring because it has wonderful oils like frankincense.
My postpartum acne was definitely hormonal. In a study* published by the International Journal of Dermatology, experts reveal that adult acne in women can be caused by hormonal imbalance. It’s legit and there are natural treatments. I’ll let the photos tell the story. Please excuse the pictures from December. I know they are gross, but that is honestly what my face looked like most of last year!
Contact me if you want to know which products I used. I’m not allowed to say the names on my website anymore, due to the new FDA compliance guidelines. We can chat all about it on the phone, email, or Facebook. All I know is I am very happy now and continue to work on reducing the appearance of fine lines (and wrinkles). If you’ve just had a baby or deal with some sort of hormonal disorder, consider getting those hormones balanced. You will be stoked with the results.
Aloha,
Jenna
